Photographic fonds on the Berner Stadttheater

Historically valuable photographs of performances at the Berner Stadttheater are to be processed and indexed

The SAPA Foundation is in possession of historically significant photographic fonds on the Stadttheater Bern, which it received from two donations: the collection of analogue paper prints from the Rieben / Erismann photo studio plus the private collection of Erismann the photographer. The photographs document the performances held at the theatre in the period from 1934 to 2003/2004. Both collections have not yet been processed and are therefore largely unknown. The fonds consists of approximately 5,000 paper prints and 90,000 negatives.

The project scope is to index the fonds in the online database, as well as to ensure proper conservation and storage. Selected sub-fonds will also be digitised and made directly available to the public via the online database.

The image files of productions at the Stadttheater Bern between 1933 and 1968 can be found in the Fred Erismann photo collection.
